WE ARE HERE FOR YOU AND YOUR PET

At Marbach Road Animal Hospital, you have found the compassion, experience and facilities necessary for excellent care for your pet. Together Dr. Martin and Dr. Young have over ninety years of experience in small animal medicine and surgery. Dr. Martin is board certified in companion animal medicine. The doctors and all the staff love their own pets. They care for your pets with the same love and concern they have for their own. Marbach Road Animal Hospital has the modern equipment necessary for the safe effective treatment of your pets: in-house laboratory, surgical suite, Laser surgery, isoflurane anesthesia, electrocardiogram, anesthetic monitors and intravenous fluid pump.

James K. Young, DVM

Dr. Young received his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Texas A&M University's College of Veterinary Medicine in 1968. He served two years at MacDill AFB, Florida. Dr. Young moved his family to San Antonio in 1970 to practice small animal medicine and surgery and in 1973 established Marbach Road Animal Hospital.

With his wife, Diana, Jim has bred bulldogs under the kennel name Chaparra Bulldogs and bred French Bull Dogs under the kennel name Billet Doux French Bull Dogs. Diana's and Jim's Chaparra Bulldogs Kennel has produced eleven American Kennel Club Champions, one dog with a Companion Dog obedience title, a George M. Beckett Award Winner and a bulldog in the Bulldog Club of America Hall of Fame. Their Billet Doux French Bull Dog kennel has produced sixteen American Kennel Club Champions.

Dr. Young has presented papers relating to the medical problems of bulldogs to dog clubs, including the Bulldog Club of America National Show weekend. He has served as Vice-president of the Bulldog Club of America and Chairman of the Committee to Reformat the Bulldog Standard. Jim did bulldog rescue in South Texas thirty years and was the first National Coordinator of Bulldog Rescue for the Bulldog Club of America.

Because of Diana's love of retired racing greyhounds, Dr. Young became involved with Hill Country Greyhound Rescue. Marbach Road Animal Hospital has provided health care and neutering for more than two hundred retired greyhounds which helped the dogs find new caring homes. Diana and Jim were fortunate to be adopted by three retired racers.

Philip W. Martin, DVM

Dr. Martin is a native San Antonian, born on the banks of the San Antonio River (Nix Hospital.) He graduated from Alamo Heights High School and got his DVM degree from Texas A&M University in 1971 with Honors.

After 18 months in a general practice in Arkansas and 6 years in a solo practice in San Antonio, Dr. Martin joined Dr. Young in practice in 1979 at the current location. In 1982 he became board certified in companion animal practice (dogs and cats) by the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners, and has successfully been re-certified by examination in 1992 and 2002. Dr. Martin and his wife Cindy live in Medina County where they care for their dogs, cats, horses, and pot-bellied pigs.

Their other family members include a daughter, son, and two grandsons, all of whom live in San Antonio. Dr. Martin enjoys any time he can spend with his family, as well as exercising regularly, hunting, backpacking, and motorcycle riding.
