Giving tablets and pills in food

For dogs that resist taking pill medication, try giving the pill in cheese, bread or peanut butter, anything that you know your dog likes.

Take two pieces of cheese, wrap the pill in one piece of cheese, give the cheese with the pill first, immediately wave the other piece of cheese in front of your dog. She should swallow the cheese with the pill so she can get the second piece of cheese.

If you use peanut butter, be sure it is regular peanut butter, not dietetic peanut butter. Low-calorie peanut butter can contain Xylitol. Xylitol is toxic to dogs.

Putting butter on bread makes it more appealing to dogs.

For dogs that like bacon, try bacon flavored cheese.
